I was able to remove the legs to reposition them. There are 4 slots for positioning the legs further or closer apart.

Once inserted they won't fall out. There are holes provided for wide and narrow spacing of the feet. However, you do need a person stationed at each end of the TV to lift it evenly maybe 12 inches off the floor to have room to insert the feet (do this with your own hands while they hold it). At a total TV weight of 44 lbs, each person will need to lift about 22 lbs on each end of the TV. If you try to lift just one end by yourself to insert the legs, you can put pressure on the other corner when it hits the floor (not good for the screen) so just do it the way the SONY instructions describe with two helpers and you'll be fine.
