My tv has played almost every type i threw at it, from bootleg download to dvd download, thr biggest issue ive seen have been 10bit and h.265 (where 8bit and h.263, h.264 is more common) , all the standard containers worked even OGG. If you have the tv already i believe VLC is an app available to Google TV and they play it all. Also the google home app forced upon us at set up has built in mirroring and casting capabilities
