Make sure the HDMI cable from your receiver to the TV is going into the HDMI 4 port that is ARC capable. This is what allows the TV audio to be directed out through the external speakers. I'm guessing your cable box is plugged directly into the receiver, so that audio feed naturally goes straight out the external speakers. Hope this helps.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I found out the best way to achieve success is by doing this. I have PS4, desktop, tv, home theatre and cable box Here's what I do: PS4 ->TV (hdmi) Desktop ->TV (hdmi) Cable box ->TV (hdmi) TV -> home theater (optic fiber) This above setup ensures sound output from music system automatically when you play any content on the tv, be it from your desktop/laptop, game console or in-TV apps. Also, I f you have Sony home theater and Sony tv you can turn on/off both with one remote if you have this following optional setup: Home theater ->TV (hdmi)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Do you have your receiver HDMI plugged into he port with ARC enabled? Once you do that you may have to turn on the ARC in the settings on the TV or on your ext audio device. If your ext audio device is Sony, it makes it super easy to navigate and you can use one remote to control it all.
