“Just purchased this tv and we watch a lot of hockey and football. When we are watching hockey the puck flickers when its being passed and disappears when being shot. Also with football the ball flickers an almost disappears at times. Is this normal?”

I don't think that is normal and have not experienced that problem. Have you checked your HDMI cable? Sounds like it might be going bad or it is your cable box or cable line coming into your house.
