It should work fine. I have optical audio running to my soundbar with HDMI from my set top box and blu-ray player to the TV. There's varying opinions on HDMI cables, but if you are running an HDMI from a 4k source to the TV you may want to upgrade your HDMI cable. I get the sense that you don't need the super fancy expensive ones, but probably shouldn't be using the same one you got from the HDTV you bought 10 years ago either.
