“Why does Sony require 11 7/8" clearance above a wall mounted tv and other manufacturers require only 3-4" above? I understand the need for ventilation, but why such a big difference?”

Hi rellie, this is for safety purposes. Inadequate ventilation can lead to overheating of the TV and may cause damage to your TV or cause a fire. Thanks! ^Ron
