• Can be just about anywhere as lower frequencies are omni directional

• I put mine on the side of a couch so that it is out of the way. The side of the couch happens to be close to the TV. To get the depth you want it close to the TV. However, it can just as easily be off to the side and I have not noticed any issues. What you get with the sound bar and subwoofer is better depth.
