Hi Dave, yes, HDMI ARC is bidirectional. You may use the apps on your TV and the audio will come out of your soundbar when using an HDMI ARC connection. ARC eliminates the need for an optical cable, and we always recommend using an HDMI ARC connection when setting up our soundbars or devices that support ARC. Regards, -Mark
