I thought the same thing when I saw this set in the store. The TV was on the top of the display, near the ceiling close to the store lighting, but I decided to trust my past experience with Sony products and bought it. After it was delivered and installed I found that this TV is bright enough for me! I've had to turn down the brightness as it can be blinding during scenes with white or bright backgrounds, especially during the evening.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not an issue. I felt the same way when I saw this in store at my local BB. Keep in mind these TVs have "retail" and "home" modes. If retail mode, picture is all messed up. I chose the "Vivid" setting on my set and it's very bright (even during the day in my living room with blinds open). Just disable all other picture enhancements as they give a "soap opera" effect (some may like it though). I prefer the image to be more life like rather than a "digital look" due to enhancements.
