Hi, You would not want to have both the tv speakers on and a separate 5.1 system. All kinds of issues with sound cancellation can happen including echoes. Phil
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to the Sony Help Guide that I downloaded: When using an external audio system, the audio out of the TV can be operated using the TV’s remote control if [Headphone/Audio out] is set to [Audio out (Variable)]. Press the HOME button, then select [Settings] — [Sound] —[Headphone/Audio out] — [Audio out (Variable)].

When selecting the external speakers you will turn off the internal speakers and these will no longer be heard. When selecting the internal speakers you will be turning off the external speakers if you are using an HDMI connection to these speakers. If you are using an Optical Cable connection from the TV audio output into your external receiver, you can keep the internal speakers on by selecting the internal speakers but will also be able to send the TV audio to you receiver via the Optical audio cable that is always active. The TV remote will control the TV speakers and your Receiver remote will control the external speakers.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That's normal. I don't believe the tv speakers can be on when you're going through the receiver for audio.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think they could, (you have to play within the settings), but why would you? You get a far better sound from separate speakers via a home theater connection
