You are concerned with reflections in your old tv. Newer TVs do handle this better than older in some cases, but the term local dimming refers to the backlight LED control dimming dark areas such as the black bars in wide screen to increase contrast and black level performance. I leave my LD setting on high at all times. The 940e is extraordinary in this attribute.

There are TVs that are more immune to this issue if it bothers you that have more of a mat finish 9n the screen and they are less reflective.
