To complete the initial setup (Set up Google TV), yes, an internet connection is required. You can also set up and use the TV without an internet connection if you would like to. Without an internet connection, you can watch TV programs from your indoor/outdoor antenna or cable set-top box and use the inputs of the TV for external devices.
