Hello Anon, thank you for your message. No, it does not mean Smart for having WiFi Capabilities. It allows you to have a variety of applications that you can stream with internet connection. However, the Blu-ray player can play either Blu-rays or DVDs without internet connection. For more information, check the marketing specifications in the link below: https://docs.sony.com/release/Specs/BDPS3500_MKSP.pdf. -Oscar.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends on what apps come with each unit. For some reason, the Amazon Prime acts up on my TV, but always acts fine on this Blu-Ray. Sometimes, redundancy is a good thing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Redundant, maybe, but why not at the price? The way it handles apps and the selection might be a little different and easier as I found out. First off, my "smart" Sharp tv doesn't do Amazon Prime Video. And the navigation was much better with the Sony. Not all smarts are the same.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For the price you might as well get the wi-fi with apps. Especially if you decide to want it connected to a different TV later on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No you don't need a Smart WIFI Blue Ray player, but you may want one like the Sony BDP6500 that upscales to 1080p or 4K which will probibly have the Smart WIFI feature also. It's well worth it !
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. The reason for the wifi player is to access the same modes that accompany the smart tv. Youtube netflix ect.
