No they are not POWERED speakers .Use audio out from your tv to your stereo to amplify the signal.These speakers are then wired from your stereo amp. If you don't have a stereo to run audio out of you have 2 choices.The best:.If you have an optical audio out on your tv run an optical cable to a soundbar. Best Buy has a wide selection. You can get by on the cheap (if you just want improved tv sound but don't need to turn the room into a concert hall if you have a headphone jack out on the back of the tv by 3.5 mm plug to a pair of ,say nice computer speakers.I have 1 tv i use Bose Companion's on.Make sure you have a tone control on the speakers (the Bose don't have it)if you go that route.
