• Yes, there is an on/off switch to stop the recording. The unit also has a "pause" button that allows you to pause the recording. Hitting the pause button a 2nd time will continue the recording.

• Yes. You can turn the unit off or just pause/stop recording. Voice activation is a mode of recording, you still have to press record on the device for it to start listening for things to record.
