A:Answer No. But you can use NiMH rechargeables. Cameras that use CCD image sensors typically use more power than MOS and CMOS sensors, up to 100X more power, which is why this camera doesn't come with a LiON rechargeable battery. But CCD sensors do have advantages though, especially in a long zoom camera with a small image sensor (which is how they get the long zoom in a small size body). This is precisely how they keep the quality up and the cost down on this camera. It would be too much for discussion here to go into the difference in CCD vs CMOS, but Google it for more info. The best battery choice for this camera would be NiMH rechargeable AA cells along with a quality charger, available for purchase almost anywhere. The chemistry of NiMH provides for a power curve with consistent output (little to no drop in voltage) right up until the battery depletes, plus they deliver more actual current faster than alkaline cells can in this type of application. With alkaline cells the power begins to decrease in pretty much a straight line from the very first picture. The result is than you never get all of the power stored in the battery before voltage drops to a point where the camera shuts down. What I'm saying is that NiMH are the way to go with this camera. The User Manual confirms they are compatible with this camera. I have used a similar Nikon CCD camers with NiMH batteries and had great results. - Hope this helps
