• The AC adapter is for charging the battery. USB cable does not charge this camera. There are stand-alone Sony X battery chargers that can charge the batteries outside of the camera. This camera does not come with an external charger.

• Hi JoeJ, The AC adapter is used to charge the battery pack from a wall outlet with the USB cable connected to the camera. The battery pack can also be charged by connecting the camera to a computer using the USB cable. -Jerome
