It doesn't force a format to store pictures or video, but it is always a good idea to format the card in the camera before it is used. I just tried it with a random SD card on my desk and it worked fine without formatting.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You do not have to format it. I originally had a Samsung camera, took that card out and put into the Sony camera. Works just fine. It creates a new folder. If you format the card, it will delete any other file folders that were there.
