We would like to recommend to try the steps available through the following link and also make sure that you reboot your iPod and that it has the latest update installed: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38966/kw/low%20sound/p/40940,40971,93795/c/65,66/related/1~ Jeannette

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Well I know for me at least I need to check and clean the area of the earbuds exposed to the ear canal. It may be nothing more than some ear wax or debris in or around the small area that is where the sound emanates from. Just be careful not to get too carried with getting them cleaned. About the only way to troubleshoot the iPod is get another set and try them to see if the sound is the same as the with the older ones, or if your back to half volume level with the new ones. Not a great plan unless no other choice.

If you don't know this already, you can go on their website and get a new pair for free, although you will have to send them in and they will check them out - to hear if they are really defective - and if they are, you can get a new pair for free - you of course need a copy of the receipt...
