Hi JonathanR, We're sorry to hear the difficulty and frustration this may have caused you. The soundbar can be connected without HDMI ARC. The connection method to output sound from the soundbar is by using HDMI ARC, HDMI and Optical Audio Cable, Optical Digital Audio Cable only and Analog Audio Cable only. Please check your Projector if these connections are applicable. Also, keep in mind that Dolby Atmos can only be passed between equipment via HDMI: it's not supported by Optical or Coaxial Audio Outputs.
