- Answer Yes with an optical cable (not included) or if your tv has a HDMI port that says ARC on it. Very easy to connect.

- Answer Speakers in sound bar are about 2”. Sub is about 6.5” in ported enclosure. Sounds better than I expected. We love it.

- Answer There is only 1 HDMI cable from SB to TVs HDMI3 ARC input using a High Speed cable (18Gbps) for Enhanced hdmi 4K support. It runs behind the SB so you really do not notice it. This SB also support 2 4K source devices like a cable box and 4K Player and that also allows Enhanced hdmi 4K HDR support for these devices. To get optimum sound, source devices should be connected to SB rather than to TV. This SB also has 2 optional wireless rear speakers that you can add on later.

- Answer I have a similar setup but i use ARC to the soundbar so everything plugs into the tv first then feeds to the soundbar. I have a Switch, ps4pro, and a 4k firetv in a rocketfish 4k hdmi switch that plugs into my hdmi2 in the tv and then hdmi1 feeds the soundbar through ARC. All of my devices work fine.

Questionwell ended up buying the lg sj9 with atmos thanks for the reply on the 3.1 sony only wish you could get rear speakers for the lg shows not available on this model have you heard if they are coming with rear speakers in the near future?

QuestionWith Z9R rears, do ALL speakers play 2-channel sources when in “Music” mode? Most 5.1 receivers have a mode like “all channel music” sends a stereo (2 Chan) source to all 5.1 speakers (presumably honoring R & L in F & R :-).

- Answer For those wondering about buying the optional Z9R rear speakers, I received a more useful answer via email from SNA Social Support <[email protected]>. I had further simplified my pre-sales question via email: "Will I hear music playing from the Z9R speakers when the HTZ9F is playing 2-channel audio content in "Music" mode? How about while in "Auto" mode?" Erin replied from [email protected] as follows: "When playing music and auto mode while the Z9R is connected, the sound is still in stereo and will be outputted to the soundbar and the rear speaker. Additionally, you can enjoy the surround sound that makes you feel as if you were actually listening to a live performance when using the Z9R." Sony folks apparently can't resist blending in a bit of upbeat marketing speak, so to net it out: Yes! The Z9R rear speakers will play 2-channel (stereo) content along with the front speakers (in the soundbar) while the HT-Z9F is in "Music" mode (also while in "Auto" mode). This is important to those planning on listening to music because "rear speakers" in 5.1 surround systems are, by default, only for channels 4 & 5 (background and sound effects in most surround sound source content). I personally won't spend $300 just to hear the occasional explosions and other ambient noise originating from my rear :-). If I buy the Z9Rs and find that this stereo content treatment is not the case, I'll post another "answer" to this surprisingly-hard-to-answer question.

QuestionIf the Sony HT-Z9F supports Surround and Atmos, why isn't it described as a 3.1.2 system? Is there some technology that it is missing to make it a 3.1.2 system? If I add the optional rear speakers, does it automatically become a proper 3.1.2 system?

There are some things we’d like for you to try and see if we can resolve the sound issue. If your soundbar is connected to the TV via an HDMI, please verify the HDMI cables you are using are rated for high speed and are at least 18 Gbps cables. Try replacing them if you have not. Next, ensure CEC control is enabled on the soundbar and your TV. You’ll need to refer to the manual of your TV, and for the soundbar, it’s on page 64 of this link https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4727/d3668cdaf4f83107b52ee9bdb84fa5a0/47275331M.pdf. We’re not sure which brand of TV you have your soundbar connected, however, please ensure both are on the latest firmware. To have the best sound quality and to enjoy the Dolby Atmos sound & control for HDMI function, we recommend connecting the Z9F via an HDMI cable (rated for high speed and are at least 18 Gbps). The HT-Z9F features customizable speaker settings where you can set the speaker distance from 0 ft to 33 ft for much richer sound quality. You can raise the level of the rear speakers 12 steps on the remote and also an additional 6 dB via the onscreen menu to help fill out your room better. The brackets do not pivot if you swivel your TV to adjust viewing positions. Please ensure you have enough clearance between the soundbar and your TV. We recommend to have the installation done by a Sony dealer or licensed contractor and pay special attention to safety during the installation.
