You select your radio station by using the Tuning roller on the side of the radio. You move this to find the station of your choice whether on AM or FM. You'd have to use the Tuning thing to re-select your station if you go between AM and FM.

Based on what I did the station dial is round. You need to turn that dial so am/fm station switch would require turning the dial
