You don't need to purchase anything except the remote control for the PS4 since the PS3 remote control is not compatible. Unfortunately the PS4 remote control does not have a touch pad or an aux port for headphones (like the dual shock 4 does which allows you to watch things with headphones). If you're used to using a game controller for multimedia input than you won't have to purchase anything additional but I would recommend buying a charging port for the controller so you don't have to fiddle with the cable every time you have to charge it.

If your console runs Blu-Rays and apps fine, apart from the obvious things like a TV, internet connection and a Dualshock 4, you don't need anything else. Now, as far as upgrading goes, the only upgrading you can do on a PS3 is getting a hard drive with more capacity and faster read/write times on said hard drive. Also, this may not be a big issue, but I have noticed that the newer (more recently manufactured) Dualshock 3s tend to connect muçh faster after the initial pairing.
