The $49.99 yearly membership is the cheapest. You simply purchase the card at Best Buy, bring it home, and enter the code on you PS. The code is not active until the card is rung up at the store. You can purchase several at one time and have multiple years...not a bad idea since Sony is raising the price of these soon...

The free games from PlayStation Plus will stop working until you deactivate yor membership though.
