I think the other person answered everything well. But I just want to add that it's not $7 a month. If you go for the best value, which is 1 year for $50, that's barely over $4 a month. Honestly, I think the service has lost quite a bit of value for newcomers. I say that because there used to be very high quality games on there that would stay on there for a long time like Uncharted 3. Plus, there were always well over 2 games available at any point when it was just the PS3 and Vita. But this wasn't much use to those who had the service for a longer time. And now that the PS4 is in the picture and part of the membership goes towards being able to play games online, I think they've dumbed down the games a bit. It's just personal preference, but I haven't come across a game on the Instant Games Collection that's interested me and is something I haven't played before in months. But if you just like playing a wide variety of games, I'm sure you'll find something to you'll like every month. Just don't expect a bunch of newer, full retail games every month. In short, give it a try for a full year. After a year passes, evaluate what all you got from the service. Count up all the games you claimed and played and see if you got your money's worth.

This is a must have for PS3 owners as Sony knows how to do it right by offering great free game like Hitman Absolution, Battlefield 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Demon's Souls, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Just Cause 2, Saints Row the 3rd, Little Big Planet Karting, Resident Evil 5, and many more as well as excellent discounts on other games. Plus you get automatic update downloads for PS3 and PS Vita, automatic install of game patches for the PS3, automatic backup of saves to the cloud, automatic syncing of trophy data, 60-minute full game trials of many retail games (PS3 only), free Avatars and one subscription covers all PlayStation platforms. Joining PS+ is a huge bargain. While you're a member, every month you get free games (2 for PS4, 2 for PS3, 2 for Vita). Even if you just have one console and just get 2 free games a month, after a few months you still get your money back. When a cross buy game is offered, it can result into a bonus free game (If the vita game is cross buy for example, then that becomes a bonus free game for the PS3 or PS4). Membership also gets you discounts every week at the PSN Store. And if you're like me and don't always have time to play the free games, no problem, as long as you activate or add a game to your library, from that point on, you can download and play that game anytime in the future as long as you're a member. The free games are usually a little old or the newest in digital only Indy games, but they often turn out to be quite fun and are worth playing (I'm not a frequent game buyer so I rarely own game if it's an older title, though it has happened). But I've been a member for 3 years now, and every year I've gotten my moneys worth and more so I definitely recommend joining PS+. Join for a year to truly get the benefits. It's worth it!

Sony now requires a valid PSN subscription in order to play online. But the PSN has come a long way since its inception a few years ago. It rivals XBL in terms of deals, utility and usage. I bought 2 cards during a sale to make sure I had plenty of time to game and utilize all the features it provides.

However, if you ever talk to any of us after a few months, you will know it is the free games that you get every month that make the subscription have that much more value. Each month, Sony offers 1-3 titles free of charge on your PS4. With that being said, this goes also with your PS3 or your Vita as well, which offers different free games. In addition, there is also some discounts to be had that are exclusive to PSPlus members, which you may also find yourself using often on a cool indie title or a recently discounted AAA title. It is basically required, and a great way for you to get yourself or your kids free games the day you bring the console home. RECOMMENDED!!!
