The Sony SRF-M37W Walkman operating instructions indicate that this unit’s power output rating is “2.8mW + 2.8mW (at 10% T.H.D.). Please note that this unit operates on one AAA battery. The DC power output rating of this unit is 1.5V. Please note that this Sony portable radio is compatible with any single-use or rechargeable AAA cell battery that outputs between 1.2V-1.5V. The Sony SRF-M37W Walkman offers exceptional battery life performance for your advanced portable audio mobile power needs. Battery output power will also vary by battery manufacturer and battery chemistry. Of course, the longer the duration the Sony Walkman is powered on, and as the volume level increases during a playback session, battery life will be shortened accordingly. Proceed with caution. Personally, I recommend a Duracell Coppertop, Duracell Ultra Advanced, Duracell Ultra Power, Energizer Max alkaline battery, Energizer Advanced Lithium, or an Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAA cell battery for maximum audio performance and battery output power of this Sony SRF-M37W Walkman. Stay away from cheap no name label alkaline or carbon zinc batteries. In my experience, these unknown brand batteries are of inferior quality, last a very short time span, and have a tendency to leak in the product packaging, and/or battery compartment. Make sure to never mix old and new batteries, different battery types, and different battery brands. Remove the single-use alkaline battery from the Sony Walkman if the portable radio is not going to be used for an extended period of time. The lithium battery type features a leak-resistant construction and may be more suitable for long term storage in extreme temperatures when compared to an alkaline battery. The battery should be replaced with a new one when the Sony Walkman consistently outputs subpar sound or no sound at all. This Sony portable radio features excellent sensitivity and selectivity with respect to its broadcast FM/AM/Weather Band reception capabilities. I feel lucky and fortunate to own it. The Sony Walkman is a small and lightweight radio that fits with ease in the palm of your hand, on your belt with included clip, or in your shirt pocket. It is just comforting to notice the solid feel and sturdy build quality of this resilient Sony SRF-M37W Walkman portable digital radio. This Sony Walkman is a go anywhere radio, that performs well under adverse conditions, including a very hot and humid summer day in Miami, on the Verrazano Bridge at the start of the New York City Marathon, or a minor rainy weather event at the college ballgame. When I am at the beach, walking in my local park, or taking a stroll on the boardwalk, I can pick up my local weather band station with a slight tap of a direct WB preset button. I am able to get an instant forecast the moment I see some clouds begin to populate a beautiful clear blue sky. Instant weather band preset station access enables me to plan the immediate future of my outing accurately and swiftly with the latest forecast at any time. I normally use ear buds but I tried my full-size Sony MDR V150 studio headphones and the SRF-M37W was able to drive them to a fairly high volume without distortion. Did not try extended listening with the full-size phones; not sure if battery drain is affected by size of transducers.
