If a product is listed as refurbished, that means that it has been used and returned to the manufacturer. After the manufacturer gets the product back, they take a look inside and fix and/or replace any components that aren't working. Once it's been verified to work properly again (and is basically like new), then the product is officially refurbished, Hope this helps, and anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
