These headphones have their own vol control on the right headset, at least on my Sony TV the volume of the TV speakers and the headphones are independent of each other. You can have no sound from TV speakers and headphones as loud as you want

Instead, I use the headphones (headset). The TV's volume is used as needed. There is a minimum volume needed for the signal to activate the speakers. There is also a volume dial on most headsets. Use it if the minimum required TV volume is a bit too loud, so that less sound reaches you. Then use the TV volume exclusively. I don't have this exact headset, but mine is also by Sony. My husband says he can hear a tiny bit of the TV even when I have the headphones on, because it isn't sealed to my ears. But he doesn't really notice it, and it never wakes him up. So use your TV's SPEAKER option if you want nobody else to hear. PS: I also love that I can wander all over the house and even into the garage and still hear the TV through my Sony Wireless Headset.

However, you can adjust the setting on your TV to hear sound from both, if the source device (cable box, satellite receiver, or Blu-ray Disc player) has multiple audio outputs.
