This means the remote will not work with the doors of your cabinet closed. IR remotes require a direct line of sight to the receiver's IR sensor to transmit commands. If the cabinet doors are closed, they will block the IR signal. To control your STR-AN1000 from within a closed cabinet, you will need an IR repeater system. The STR-AN1000 has an "IR REMOTE IN" jack specifically for this purpose.
