“Can this player play (not stream) directly to a smart TV over wifi or LAN if both are on the same network? I want to keep it in a different room. Thus instead of connecting through an HDMI, I want to play over the network. Thanks.”

Thanks for the replies. What about this Sony video? https://youtu.be/SJN7YfFX53s She doesn’t say anything about connecting the player to tv through hdmi, does she? I’m not sure if it’s possible but seems like it is.

No. It has to be connected thru the HDMI.

No. I don't know of any disc players that convert their output to a streaming format that goes out over a home network to be received by a streaming application in a Smart TV or other streaming device. For that, you really need something like a PC running as a Plex server.
