Its not going to silence a gun going off but it does drown out sounds

We do not publish the noise reduction rating, that rating is more suited for ear protection used in a noisy work environment. However, to give you an idea about the noise-canceling of the unit, it is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
