You can turn off the feature that requires both of them to be in the ear.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The left one needs to be in your ear for the right one to power on I wish they were independent but the right one can not operate without the left one being in your ear but you can have just the left one in I hate that feature but that is how it is
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Either earbud can function independently, even with one in the charging case. However, since each earbud has different set of touchpad functions, you will not be able to perform the functions on the unused earbud if it’s in the case. Your music will not be interreupted though.
