“Charge seems to last less than 24 hours and then takes 12 hours to recharge. The person that I used them is bed ridden and keeps them on 24 hours per day. Can you use regular batteries instead of rechargeable ones? Is there a separate charger to buy?”

Yes, you can use regular battery's. If you do use regular batteries, [ DO NOT PUT THE HEAD SET BACK ON THE STAND ] You could buy rechargeable batteries and use a separate charger. Hope that this may help.
