Personally, I'd look into buying the replacement ear cushion for your 985r set, and keep them if they're still at all functional. The sound quality or the 985r is so much superior to the garbled crap that comes out of the RF400.` The 985R does a great job of muffling out the ambient room noise, where as the RF400 doesn't. This becomes problematic when listening to the TV using the headphones while someone else is using the TV sound. Being able to hear both really sets up an echo.
