“I have an older XB, 40 I think. It was a gift a little over a year ago. I’m thinking about getting the XB 30. Will I be able to pair the old with the new if I chose to?”

I have an XB 30, & other than it being a reputable name brand, being able to sync it to other XB’s was another reason why I purchased the speaker although I don’t know this personally, I do plan on getting an XB 20, or another 30 ( XB 40 is too expensive for me!)
