• Yes, I use mine that way all the time. The connection is the same as pairing any other Bluetooth device to a cell phone.

• Yes, and that's mostly how I use this speaker. I bought it for my tv initially, but I end up using it standalone with my phone to stream Pandora through the house. and my phone even reaches signal when I'm upstairs and the speaker is downstairs. And the awesome part is that its fairly portable - you could bring it outside and use it in the garage or for cookouts.
