“Does this system have to be connected to the internet-wifi, or can I use it as a standalone Video to DVR. I don't care about the remote capabilities as much as I care about it recording in-house, since I have satellite internet with limited data cap.”

It has standalone video to nvr, you don't need to be hooked up to the Internet for it to function and record and use playback.
