The cameras can see a car at 100 ft., but reading a license plate depends on the angle, light reflection, how clean the license plate is, if they have a cover over it and a numerous amount of other details. Cameras used by the police, such as those to capture a car running a red light are typically 12MP and up and flash a bright light to capture plates.
