Yes it can be set to record all the time. However, there are limits to the storage in the dvr. My understanding is once the dvr is full it starts recording over itself. So depending on the number of cameras you have set up, and if all are set to record all the time, you may not have many days of storage. Yes you can play recordings back. Using the Swann app on your phone, or the Swanview software on your computer.

You need to connect a monitor to the system to set it up. If there is video which needs to be saved for an extended period you can save it to a thumb drive otherwise when the system is full it will record over old video. If you connect the system to the internet, you can monitor from your smart phone. I installed my system in my daughter's store to monitor customers. You can play back on the monitor. The only additions needed are the monitor and an internet connection. Very easy to install.
