It only extend about 90 degrees.

You can also use one side flat, such as for eggs, and the other side with the grill part, for bacon, etc. Or, you can make a sandwich, hamburger, steak or chicken breast and cook both sides at once. Just be sure you don't cook as long, since it is cooking on both sides at once!
