You can also use an Internet number holding and forwarding service, such as ring.to, (does all this wonderfully, for a small fee,) or grooveip, (free, ) to port and hold your number. Alternatively, you can use Google voice to find a number you really like, and for $3, you can port out and "own" that number for life. I picked an alliterative, easy to remember number when my children were young, and have never regretted it. Plus, my business cards never need updating!
