“What does it mean I need to activate this new phone. I have an existing T-mobile plan. I just want a new phone. If I buy this phone, will I be charged for anything over and above my existing plan?”

I was an existing T-mobile costumer as well. I had a Nokia 521 so all I did was take the sim card and micro sd out of my 521 and put it in my new Lumia 635, Then, I followed the directions on the phone and it was up and running in no time. I wasn't charged anything other than what I paid for the phone. These phones come with sim cards so if it's a different size than the one you already have in your phone you'll have to call T-mobile to have them activate it. When my daughters got iphones I had to pay $10 per phone for the sim cards but there were no other charges. That may depend on your plan though.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you already have a T-Mobile acct then all you need to do is insert your SIM card into this phone and that's it. Your number and acct info is all on your SIM card. I bought this phone just to upgrade my current T-Mobile phone. Only problem you may have is if your SIM card is a different size then this phone takes, and if so just call T-Mobile and they will replace your SIM card with the one in the box included with the phone. Activation fees are only if your creating a new T-Mobile acct.
