• Yes, an existing SIM card can be used but it must be for a prepaid plan.

• I did the same thing. I am currently using my old micro sim with my active plan instead of the one included. I assume you can just hold on to the new sim just in case. I broke my HTC desire 6262 and this was the perfect upgrade, not too pricey but definitely worth the money.
