There is no preferred harddrive speed. A 5600 rpm drive should perform just as well as a 7200 rpm drive. No you cannot view or record channels from any other source. With the Tablo you will be able to view and record over the air broadcasts and the streaming channels that Tablo provides only.

I don’t know what the requirements are, but I haven’t encountered any issues. My Tablo is connected to the Tablo app on FireTV. I am able to record multiple programs including over-the-air programs as well as the Tablo streaming channels. I do not believe you will be able to record your Roku channels since they don’t go through the Tablo App.
