This device streams over your home via wireless or wired; it has no coax or HDMI connection. Works best with it connected via ethernet to your router.

A network connection is needed for more than downloading the guide and setting schedules - it is also needed to watch TV (live or recorded) on your streaming device. You didn't say what devices you intend to watch with (phone, iPad, Roku, etc.), but you need some sort of device to stream the video over your home network from the Tablo. Both the Tablo and that device must be connected to the network when you are watching your programs. The Tablo can connect to your network in one of two ways - wifi OR wired ethernet (preferred). One of these connections MUST be active any time you use the Tablo in any way. Regardless of which connection type you use for the Tablo itself, the device you watch with is typically connected to your network via wifi. Some 'Smart TVs' can connect to the Tablo directly over your network. If you want to watch on any other TV, it will need some kind of streaming box (Roku, Apple TV, etc) connected to the TV and to the network. If you watch on a phone or tablet, it will use its own wifi connection to your network. The Tablo must also, of course, be connected to AC power via its power cord, and to your antenna. The best option is to find a spot where it can be connected to power, antenna, and a wired ethernet port on your network, and leave it that way. This is how mine is connected. If no wired network ports are available, the next best option is to place it someplace where you can connect power and antenna, AND your home wifi is strong. If the Tablo has a poor network connection, you will be very frustrated when trying to watch anything. Hope that helps !
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Tablo works through servers and requires internet to serve up the programming to your devices. Note that there is no HDMI or video output on the box, therefore it uses other devices like ROKU, AMAZON, etc to retrieve your programming through the internet. This is how you are also able to enjoy it on phones, and outside your home. The guide subscription is optional and after your initial free time with the guide, if you choose not to use it, you can manually set the recordings, but with probably less accuracy and certainly less "time ahead' in setting as the guide goes out a couple of weeks, and not having it would not allow you to know as much about the episodes. Hope that helps some!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you need wifi connection. Unless you're directly connected to a tv or pc, you'll need the wifi to view anything you've recorded.
