I also know very little about computer stuff, but I do know my speed it slow also and this works fine for me. I use a Roku stick which is similar to a fire stick. If you do ever have any tiling just unplug your router for 30 seconds or so, plug back in and let it reboot.

First off it's for cord cutters who still want to watch abc, nbc, cbs fox, cw and a hand full of other station if you live within 40-60 miles of a city. Though if that's all you want then all you need is a digital antenna. I get 60 stations 20 miles north of Boston. What this device allows you to do is have one antenna and then send that info to all other smart TVs in the house. The other thing that this would allow you to do is to watch that those same stations outside the house but you would need better internet connection for this feature which you don't have. This device is a digital tuner. It needs a digital antenna attached to it. The antenna takes OTA (over-the-air) locally broadcast television signals and sends them to the tablo device. Though you can make an antenna out of a coax cable and a paper clip, I recommend buying one as you'll receive way more channels. The tablo digital tuner connects directly to your router/cable modem and allows you to take the signal from the antenna and stream it over you internal network to your devices and smart TV's locally in your house. The device itself connects to the internet to get guide information but it doesn't need a fast connection to do so. Now it can also allow you to watch your channels outside your house but with your internet speed this feature probably won't work well. You can also add USB drive to add DVR functionality, 500 gb drive is about 2000 hd hours to record. They offer automatic commercial skip as a premium, $2 a month.
