“Is this an upgraded version? Mine is a few years old and does have the rattling noise (yes slapping on top of the fan works....but now the part that lifts the lap top is going bad.) Would be interested in purchasing if it is a newer, improved product.”

No susan, the problems still exist. Might look a little different but the loud rattling noise that most are stating in their reviews is true. My only solution besides unplugging it is the slam method (as you described)

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just purchased mine in Oct 2017 the fans are high speed and works great but no rattling noise, with laptop on chill mat you can hardly hear the fans so no interference with watching TV or anyone around you. I love the idea of the 4 USB ports

Please try again later.Well, Sue, I just purchased this and seeing I have purchased several in the past, and although the products did exactly what they said, they became an inconvenience more than a help. As you say after a while the fans became more and more louder which was a PITA. That said because of where the 4 USB ports are(in the back and NOT the side) it is a definite plus and although I can not speak about the lift/rise of the unit, due to my little time in using, I will say that it is presently holding firm and after analyzing the mechanisms involved (I am a Mechanical Engineer and I built Nuclear Submarines for the U.S. Navy for 28 years) I will give my opinion as that I can not see it failing, except of course if your significant other throws it against a wall. So I would recommend this and it seems that it has been improved as much as it possibly could. Sue, hope this helps you out.The final thing I must add, I just noticed the date that you post your question and I am shaking my head that Best Buy asked me to help answer your inquiry, sorry that it was 9 months ago..
