• I have not put a pen in my Targus. I believe it's for a stylus. I tried putting my stylus in it and it seemed very tight. I really don't use the stylus so it is empty.

• I have always used the pen. When I got my first IPad I got a pen and always use it. Keeps the screen cleaner and easier to write with.

• The Pencil allows you to take notes and it's an amazing one at that. This case also has cut outs for the speakers not on the IPad Air 2.

• You can use the pencil instead of your finger and it is for sketching and coloring. You can go to Apple Store for demonstrations.
