can this replace a dying fan? so i think the fan in my laptop is on the way out. is this a workable solution to the problem? i don't have the money to buy a new one and don't feel comfortable shipping it off some place to have it fixed, if possible

This is not as strong as your laptop fan but brings a steady stream of air under the laptop just enough to cool it down. It still gets pretty hot. I cannot runt he laptop without the fan mat.

No chill mat can replace a device fan! If your device has a failing cooling fan, either replace the cooling fan or invest in a new machine.

The fan in a laptop is internal and directly helps remove heat from the cpu and such. The fans on the Chill Mat are just two low power fans that blow on the bottom of the laptop and I don't think would do as much as an internal fan, so I doubt it would solve your problem.

If the fan in your laptop is dying I don't believe this would provide enough cooling for the processor within the case.

Not sure if it'll completely replace your laptop's fans if you're doing a lot of video streaming/gaming, but I'd say it can keep it cool enough to browse the web.

I would definitely give the cooling pad a try. Since it comes with a fan, you'd be able to keep it on instead of your laptop fan which you said is not working.

I would say that buying a "chill matt" is a good idea however this one is particular is not a good product. do some research on google search for good external fans for laptops

My experience would suggest you look for a pad that is concave under neath the laptop to allow more air flow and possibly assist with a failing fan.

internal fans direct the airflow to and from the heat sinks to cool the processors. All this will do is pull that heat from the bottom of the laptop. This is not a suitable to replace internal fans.
