A:Answer Hello--
All TVs require a cable box/modem to get a cable TV signal. If you have cable TV service, however, the cable company (Xfinity?) will have provided you with at least a basic box. That being said, you do not need cable service with this TV. The built-in ROKU works directly from an internet connection, either through a WiFi network, or an Ethernet cable from your internet modem. If you are trying to avoid having a box, that is the way to go. Just connect the TV to your WiFi network and you can get streaming video from anything you subscribe to, like Netflix and Amazon Prime. And if you have Xfinity, you can download their app (still in Beta testing, so not perfect), and use your Xfinity log-on to receive a live TV signal. That is what I do, and I have the TV mounted on the wall with no box involved, just the power cord. The ROKU account in itself is free, but of course you have to pay for the streaming channels. I hope this explains it!
